description Kainella Overview
Kainella is an extinct genus of Early Ordovician trilobites in the family Kainellidae, named by Charles D. Walcott in 1925. It is especially associated with Tremadocian faunas of the Central Andean Basin, where species are documented in northwestern Argentina and southern Bolivia, and it also occurs in Early Ordovician successions of Laurentia. Kainella-bearing assemblages are used in regional correlation of basal Ordovician marine strata, including successions in the western United States.
