Maximummer

description Maximummer Overview

Maximummer is a fairy-chess condition that changes how one side selects a move without changing the ordinary chessboard or pieces. On Black's turn, the legal move with the greatest geometric distance between its starting and ending squares must be played; the distance is measured on the board rather than by the value of the piece or the number of captured pieces. White's moves are not subject to this maximum-distance requirement unless a specific problem states another rule.

help Maximummer FAQ

What is the special rule in Maximummer chess?

Maximummer changes move selection for Black without changing the ordinary board or pieces. On Black's turn, the legal move with the greatest geometric distance must be played.

Which side is affected by Maximummer?

Black is the side subject to the maximum-distance rule. White continues to choose among legal moves under ordinary chess play.

How is move distance measured in Maximummer?

The distance is measured geometrically between the starting square and ending square. The longest legal move available to Black determines the move that must be played.

Does Maximummer use a different chessboard?

No. It uses the normal chessboard and standard chess pieces, while changing only how Black selects a legal move.
