description Nearpod Overview

Nearpod is an instructional delivery platform that lets teachers create or adapt slide-based lessons with interactive media, including video, 3D objects, virtual reality experiences, and simulations. Teachers can add activities such as polls, quizzes, open-ended questions, and collaborative boards, then run lessons live or let students work at their own pace. It is designed for classroom instruction and real-time formative assessment.

help Nearpod FAQ

Can Nearpod run a lesson live and also let students work alone?

Yes. Nearpod has Live Participation mode, in which the teacher controls the lesson pace, and Student-Paced mode for asynchronous work. It also offers a Front of Class mode when students are only watching the projected lesson. [Nearpod how-it-works page](https://nearpod.com/how-nearpod-works?oc=intl-howitworks-topbox)

Which interactive activities are built into Nearpod?

Teachers can use polls, quizzes, open-ended questions, Draw It, Collaborate Board, matching activities, and fill-in-the-blank tasks. Nearpod also includes VR field trips and PhET simulations for lessons that need more than ordinary slides.

Can I import existing PowerPoint or Google Slides lessons into Nearpod?

Yes. Nearpod supports importing PowerPoint files, Google Slides, PDFs, and videos before adding interactive activities. That lets a teacher keep an existing lesson structure while inserting checks for understanding.

What makes Nearpod different from a normal slide presentation?

Students respond from their own devices while the teacher sees formative-assessment data during the lesson. A quiz, poll, or drawing can therefore reveal misunderstanding before the class moves to the next slide.
