Summer

Summer is an individual Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, not a species. The catalog entry describes her as living under professional human care in the United States and being recognized in marine mammal behavioral study.

She is described as an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, the species Tursiops truncatus. Her importance comes from repeated observation under professional care, which allows researchers to document individual behavior over time.

The Dolphin Research Center reported that a dolphin named Summer was found stranded as an infant on Redington Beach, Florida, on July 4, 2014. The account says she was first acclimated in a medical pool before moving toward the center's dolphin lagoons. Do not merge this entry with Winter, the rescued dolphin associated with the film Dolphin Tale. The catalog record identifies Summer as a real Atlantic bottlenose dolphin under care, not as a fictional film character.
