help ProWritingAid for Academic FAQ
What does ProWritingAid's Academic writing style actually change?
ProWritingAid's Academic style adds checks suited to formal work, including sentence fragments and removal of smileys, while its guide says passive-voice suggestions are disabled for that style. You still need to select the Academic style and an appropriate document type. [ProWritingAid](https://cdn.prowritingaid.com/ebook/ProWritingAid_EBook11.pdf)
Can ProWritingAid keep APA, MLA or Chicago citations consistent?
It can improve prose consistency and highlight writing problems, but the Academic profile is not a source database or a guarantee that a citation is correct. Check APA, MLA or Chicago references against your institution's current style guide.
Does ProWritingAid check American versus British spelling?
Yes. Its Consistency Check flags spelling, hyphenation, capitalization and punctuation differences, including American versus British English. [ProWritingAid](https://help.prowritingaid.com/article/40-how-to-use-the-consistency-check)
Can I use ProWritingAid Academic in Word or Google Docs?
ProWritingAid lists integrations for Google Docs and Microsoft Word, along with Scrivener and other writing apps. The Academic setting changes the editing rules, but it does not turn Word into a reference manager.
