Overview

John McEnroe is remembered as one of the most gifted and volatile talents in tennis history. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles and dominated the early 1980s with his brilliant serve-and-volley game, unparalleled touch, and competitive fire. His 1980 Wimbledon final loss to Borg and his 1981 victory are classics. McEnroe also excelled in doubles, winning nine major men's doubles titles. He spent 170 weeks at World No. 1 and his 1984 season (82-3 record) is one of the greatest single seasons ever. While his on-court outbursts were infamous, they were part of a passionate pursuit of perfection that fueled a unique brand of artistic, instinctive tennis that has rarely been matched.
