Visual SourceSafe

Visual SourceSafe (VSS) was a version control system developed by Microsoft, widely used in the 1990s and early 2000s. It was notorious for its instability, frequent database corruption, and lack of robust features. Microsoft officially discontinued VSS years ago and strongly advises against its use. It is included here only as a warning; if you encounter a project still using Visual SourceSafe, your first priority should be to migrate the code to a modern system like Git. It is effectively dead and should never be used for any project, regardless of size.
