UN Women

UN Women, officially known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, was established in July 2010. It was created to accelerate the UN's goals and demands on gender equality. Their massive influence unites several previous UN women's advocacy groups under one roof.

As of the mid-2020s, the Executive Director of UN Women is Sima Sami Bahous, a Jordanian diplomat. She was appointed by the UN Secretary-General to lead the entity's global network. She works directly with governments and civil society to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

UN Women focuses on ending discrimination against women and girls across the globe. They work extensively to promote policies that transition society toward gender equality and empower women economically and politically. Their goals are specifically tied to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

UN Women advocates for and helps implement global laws that protect women from domestic and sexual violence. They also support grassroots programs globally, such as the Spotlight Initiative, which aims to eliminate violence against women and girls. They amplify the urgency of climate action and crisis response where women are disproportionately affected.
