Volkl Deacon 72

The Volkl Deacon 72 is a versatile all-mountain ski that excels on groomed runs, but it is not an ideal choice for tight moguls. Its Titanal frame provides excellent stability and edge hold at high speeds, making the ski quite stiff. While it offers decent performance off-piste, a softer, narrower ski with more tip rocker would be much better for bump runs.

Many Volkl Deacon 72 skis come pre-mounted with Volkl's proprietary Marker Motion system bindings, which use a specialized rail interface rather than a traditional flat track. Because of this Titanal frame design, you must use the specific rail bindings designed for the ski. You cannot mount standard flat-mount bindings onto these skis without specialized drilling by a ski shop.

The Volkl Deacon 72 features a relatively short turning radius—usually around 13 to 15 meters depending on the exact ski length you choose. This design allows the ski to initiate fast, aggressive carves while maintaining excellent stability and edge hold on firm snow. It makes the Deacon 72 a highly reliable choice for skiers who love making quick, rhythmic turns on the groomers.

While it is a masterclass on groomed runs, the Volkl Deacon 72 is not designed to be a powder ski. Its 72mm waist width and Titanal frame prioritize hard-pack stability and edge hold rather than floatation. You will find it sinks quickly in deep snow, so it is only recommended for light, tracked-out snow or a couple of inches of fresh powder off-piste.
