WorldView-1 is a commercial Earth observation satellite launched by DigitalGlobe in 2007. Operating in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of approximately 496 kilometers, the satellite was designed to capture high-resolution panchromatic imagery. It features a camera system capable of resolving objects on the ground as small as 0.5 meters, making it a vital tool for mapping, environmental monitoring, and national security applications. WorldView-1 provided the highest-resolution commercial imagery available at the time of its launch.

WorldView-1 carries a panchromatic sensor, so its native imagery records a broad black-and-white band rather than separate red, green and blue channels. Color products require data from another multispectral satellite or a separate fusion process.
How detailed are WorldView-1 images?
The satellite was designed to collect panchromatic imagery at roughly half-meter ground resolution under favorable viewing conditions. That is detailed enough to distinguish many buildings, roads and large vehicles, but not to identify a person's face.
Who operates WorldView-1 now that DigitalGlobe no longer uses that name?
DigitalGlobe launched WorldView-1 in 2007 and later became part of Maxar Technologies. Maxar therefore markets and manages imagery from the WorldView constellation.
Is WorldView-1 the same satellite as WorldView-2?
