description Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional Overview

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, commonly known as LaLiga, is the association responsible for Spain's professional men's first and second football divisions. Its name is also closely associated with the top division, which includes clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona. The institution and the competition are related but distinct: the association organizes professional league football rather than being simply another name for one division. For supporters, its competitions provide season-long contests shaped by club rivalries and the movement of teams through promotion and relegation.

Broadcasting rights are a major part of the commercial system, while clubs also earn income through activities such as merchandise sales. The organization matters to clubs and media partners as well as fans following elite European football. Its category distinction rests on its role administering two professional divisions within the wider Spanish football structure.
