Goryeo was a Korean dynasty founded by Wang Geon in 918 and in control of the Korean Peninsula by 936. It gave Korea the name used in many modern languages and is associated with the development of distinctive celadon ceramics, the growth of Buddhist institutions, and the production of the Tripitaka Koreana, a large set of Buddhist texts carved onto 81,258 woodblocks.
