description Helinox Chair Zero Overview

Low packed weight is the central attraction of the Helinox Chair Zero, a compact camp chair with a collapsible aluminum frame and fabric seat. Helinox lists the chair at roughly 18 ounces before its carrying bag, rather than the 23 ounces stated previously. The frame poles and seat pack together into a small bundle, making it relevant when a conventional folding chair would take too much space. Its suspended seat provides an alternative to sitting directly on the ground during backpacking trips or outdoor events.

The design prioritizes carrying convenience, so its low seating position and compact proportions feel different from a large camp chair. Stability depends on the surface, and small feet can sink into soft ground. It suits campers willing to accept those trade-offs for a separate seat that adds relatively little weight to their load.

help Helinox Chair Zero FAQ

Is the Helinox Chair Zero actually light enough for backpacking?

Yes, the Chair Zero is built for backpackers who care about ounces, with a packed weight around 1.1 to 1.4 pounds depending on how it is measured with the case. Its DAC aluminum pole frame is the reason it can stay much lighter than typical folding camp chairs.

How much weight can the Helinox Chair Zero hold?

The Chair Zero is commonly listed with a 265 pound weight capacity. That is high for an ultralight chair, but the low seat and narrow profile still feel different from a full-size car-camping chair.

What is the biggest comfort tradeoff with the Chair Zero?

The biggest tradeoff is seat height, since the Chair Zero sits close to the ground compared with a Helinox Chair One. It is more comfortable than sitting on a foam pad, but less lounge-like than heavier chairs designed for base camp.

Does the Helinox Chair Zero sink into soft ground?

It can sink in sand, mud, or soft forest soil because the legs use small contact points. Helinox sells ground sheets and ball feet for some chair models, and many backpackers use a flat rock or scrap pad under the feet.
