description JBL Charge 6 Overview
The JBL Charge 6 combines a portable Bluetooth speaker with a built-in power bank for charging compatible devices. Its outdoor-oriented construction includes IP68 water and dust protection, making it suited to travel and situations where a speaker may face splashes or dirt. Battery operation allows music playback away from a power outlet, while the charging function gives it a practical role beyond playing audio. Bluetooth 5.4 handles wireless connectivity.
For shared playback, the Charge 6 uses Auracast to connect with compatible speakers rather than the older PartyBoost system. That distinction matters when matching it with an existing JBL collection. The speaker suits listeners seeking portable sound with bass presence and device charging in the same unit. Protective ratings and battery life have stated conditions, so neither should be treated as an unlimited guarantee in every outdoor setting.
help JBL Charge 6 FAQ
Does the JBL Charge 6 use PartyBoost?
The Charge 6 moved to JBL's newer Auracast-based pairing system rather than the older PartyBoost branding used on speakers like the Charge 5. That matters if you already own older JBL speakers and want multi-speaker pairing.
How waterproof is the JBL Charge 6?
The JBL Charge 6 is rated IP68, which covers dust resistance and water immersion under the rating's test conditions. That is a step up from the IP67 rating commonly associated with the Charge 5.
Can the JBL Charge 6 charge a phone?
Yes, the Charge line's built-in power bank feature continues on the Charge 6. It uses USB-C, so it can top up a phone while still serving as a portable Bluetooth speaker.
What changed from JBL Charge 5 to Charge 6?
The Charge 6 adds newer Bluetooth support, USB-C audio capability, Auracast pairing, and an upgraded durability rating. The Charge 5 remains the older, widely sold model with PartyBoost support.
