This fateful leap transports Kyou into a war-torn world where humans pilot impressive humanoid robots known as Zegas to fight against malicious aliens known as Gards-Orm.

To spearhead this endeavor, humans have formed Cerebrum, a rebel organization working to prevent the Gards-Orm from eradicating humankind.

help Zegapain FAQ

What is the big twist in Zegapain?

Kyou Sogoru discovers that his peaceful life in Maihama is actually a quantum simulation — the real world was devastated long ago, and the 'people' around him are data. The battles he fights in the giant robot Zegapain against the Gards-orm take place in the ruined real world.

Which studio made Zegapain and when did it air?

Zegapain is an original 26-episode mecha anime produced by Sunrise that aired in 2006. Being an original story rather than a manga adaptation made its simulation twist especially surprising at the time.

Is there a sequel or movie continuation of Zegapain?

Yes, a follow-up film called Zegapain ADP was released in 2016 to mark the anime's 10th anniversary. It revisits the cast and adds new story material for fans of the 2006 series.

Where is Zegapain set — is Maihama a real place?

The story takes place in Maihama City, named after the real Maihama district in Chiba, Japan, near Tokyo Disneyland. The simulated version of the city is deliberately idyllic, which makes the revelation about its true nature hit harder.
