description 9/11 Memorial Overview
The National September 11 Memorial, located at the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, was dedicated on September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Designed by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker, the memorial features two reflecting pools marking the footprints of the original Twin Towers, with the names of the 2,983 victims of the 1993 and 2001 attacks inscribed in bronze parapets surrounding the pools. The memorial is part of a larger complex that includes the 9/11 Memorial Museum, opened in 2014, and is operated by the non-profit National September 11 Memorial & Museum foundation.
