A Cure for Wellness

Dane DeHaan plays Lockhart, a young executive sent to a remote facility in the Swiss Alps. His assignment is to bring back the head of his company, but he becomes trapped in the institution himself.

Gore Verbinski directed the 2016 psychological horror film. The movie uses the isolated Alpine setting to combine corporate suspicion, medical horror, and gothic imagery.

It is not a straightforward screen adaptation of Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain. The sanatorium setting and themes invite comparison with Mann's novel, but the film tells its own story about Lockhart and the facility.

The center presents itself as a place of health and recovery while hiding coercive experiments and a disturbing history. Its polished medical rituals gradually become more threatening than the remote mountain location.
