description Abby Wambach Overview

Retired American forward Abby Wambach built her reputation around powerful aerial play and decisive finishing for the United States women's national team. Her 184 goals were scored in senior international matches, not across a combined national and club career or exclusively at Women's World Cups. She helped the United States win the 2015 Women's World Cup and became an influential figure in women's football. Headers were a defining feature of Wambach's attacking game, supported by positioning and an ability to contest crosses under pressure.

Her club career included the Washington Freedom and Western New York Flash, not Bayern Munich or the Washington Spirit. For aspiring forwards and soccer fans, her performances offer a study of how physical presence can work with timing and team service to create scoring opportunities.
