ABC Stage 67

Airing during the 1966–1967 television season, ABC Stage 67 was an American anthology series created to showcase a diverse range of original and experimental productions. Unlike standard episodic TV, the program featured a rotating lineup of single dramas, documentaries, and musical specials.

Because it was a prestigious, high-profile project, the series attracted major Hollywood talents. For example, the highly acclaimed episode 'The Love Song of Barney Kempinski' starred Alan Arkin, who won an Emmy Award for his performance.

Despite winning critical acclaim and industry awards, the show struggled to attract a large mainstream audience due to its experimental and non-traditional format. The varying genres—from heavy drama to documentary—made it difficult for viewers to know what to expect week to week, leading to low ratings and its swift cancellation.

The network produced exactly 26 hour-long episodes of the anthology series before pulling the plug. Many of these episodes were shot on color videotape or film, and several surviving copies are currently preserved in archival collections.
