description Ada Gospels Overview

The Ada Gospels is a Carolingian illuminated Gospel book produced in the late 8th or early 9th century. It gives its name to the Ada School, a group of manuscripts associated with the courtly artistic culture that developed around Charlemagne and distinguished by monumental evangelist portraits, classical forms, and elaborate ornament. The manuscript contains the Latin text of the four Gospels and is preserved in the Trier City Library.
