ADOX Scala 50

ADOX Scala 50 is a black-and-white reversal film introduced in 2019. It is based on the company's HR-50 negative film stock but is designed specifically for slide processing. This means it produces positive transparencies rather than traditional negatives.

The film has a low ISO speed of 50. This low sensitivity yields extremely fine grain and high resolution, making it ideal for detailed photography. Photographers will typically need plenty of light or a stable tripod to use it effectively.

As a reversal film, it requires a specific black-and-white transparency development process, such as the Fomapan R100 reversal kit. It cannot be processed in standard C-41 color chemistry or simply developed as a standard negative. Once processed, the slides can be projected using a standard slide projector.

While Scala 50 is built upon the emulsion technology of the ADOX HR-50 negative film, they are intended for different outcomes. HR-50 is meant to be developed into a traditional negative for printing, whereas Scala 50 is factory-prepared to be reversal-processed into a positive slide. Scala 50 serves as the modern successor to the legendary Agfa Scala film.
