Adrar Oasis

Adrar Oasis is in southwestern Algeria and is the capital of Adrar Province. It lies in the Touat region of the Sahara.

A foggara is a traditional underground irrigation system that carries groundwater toward cultivated land. Adrar is historically known for these systems, which helped sustain oasis agriculture in the dry Touat region.

Adrar and the wider Touat region served as a trans-Saharan caravan hub. Water access and oasis settlements made the area useful for people and trade crossing the desert.

Oasis agriculture in Adrar depends on carefully managed groundwater and irrigation, especially through foggara systems. Date palms are a central feature of the cultivated oasis environment.
