AeroWinx PSX

AeroWinx PSX (Precision Simulator X) is a highly detailed desktop simulation of the Boeing 747-400, replicating virtually every system on the flight deck including the FMC, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and flight management systems. It was developed by Hardy Heinlin, a programmer with extensive real-world 747 systems knowledge.

PSX is widely used by rated 747-400 pilots for home study and cockpit procedures practice, and some aviation training organizations have referenced it as a supplementary familiarization tool. However, it is not FAA-certified as a standalone training device and does not replace formal simulator sessions at certified training centers.

PSX is notably lightweight by modern flight simulation standards, running on ordinary desktop and laptop computers with modest hardware specifications because its fidelity is focused on systems modeling rather than heavy graphical rendering. It can run on Windows, and has also been adapted to run on macOS and Linux through various methods.

While the PMDG 747 provides high-fidelity systems modeling paired with modern graphical rendering inside Microsoft Flight Simulator, PSX prioritizes raw depth of systems simulation over visuals — it models failures, non-normal procedures, and edge-case behaviors in ways that go deeper than most consumer add-ons. Many serious users run both: PSX for systems study and a visual platform like MSFS for the external view.
