Agaricus xanthodermus, commonly called the yellow stainer, is a poisonous Agaricus mushroom that grows in lawns, gardens, and other grassy or disturbed places. It can resemble edible field or horse mushrooms, but its cap and stem turn bright chrome yellow when bruised or cut, especially at the stem base, and its odor is often compared with phenol, ink, or carbolic soap.
