Al-Farghani, known in Latin Europe as Alfraganus, was a ninth-century astronomer from the Islamic world. His principal astronomical work, often translated as Elements of Astronomy on the Celestial Motions, presents a systematic account of the size and motion of the heavens based on Ptolemaic astronomy. Latin translations circulated in medieval Europe and helped transmit astronomical concepts, including the structure of the cosmos and measurements associated with celestial bodies.
