Alexander Agassiz Guyot

Alexander Agassiz Guyot is a submerged volcanic mountain, or guyot, in the Pacific Ocean. It was named after the nineteenth-century American scientist Alexander Agassiz.

A guyot is a submarine volcano with a relatively flat summit. The flat top usually reflects erosion or reef growth when the volcano stood closer to sea level before subsiding.

It is notable for its submerged coral reef cap and deep-water marine life. Those features record the geological history of a volcanic island or seamount that later sank beneath the ocean.

The deep-water habitat can support marine organisms associated with seamounts and hard volcanic or reef surfaces. The exact community depends on depth, currents, and available substrate.
