Andrei Boreyko

Andrei Boreyko is a Russian conductor born in 1957 who has held chief conductor posts at several European orchestras. He is recognized for interpretations spanning German and Russian repertoire.

He trained as a conductor in his native St. Petersburg, then Leningrad, and continued his studies in Leipzig, Germany. This Soviet-plus-German schooling underpins his command of both Russian and German symphonic literature.

He rose to prominence as leader of the Jena Philharmonic in the early 1990s and later served as music director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Canada in the early 2000s. He has since guest-conducted major orchestras across Europe and North America.
