Argentine Monte

description Argentine Monte Overview

The Argentine Monte, also called Low Monte, is an arid ecoregion of dry thorn scrub and grasslands in north-central and west-central Argentina. It includes parts of the Río Negro and Río Colorado watersheds and contains seasonal or intermittent watercourses, with settlements concentrated near rivers and oases. Cacti and other drought-adapted plants occur among the shrubs and grasses. Clearing, livestock grazing, and altered water systems have contributed to erosion, desertification, and habitat fragmentation.
