description Asana Boards Overview

Asana Boards are web-based visual task management tools designed for teams seeking improved productivity. They utilize a Kanban style interface to organize work into columns representing stages of progress. This system facilitates collaboration and allows users—particularly in business settings and agile environments—to track projects visually, manage dependencies, and streamline workflows.

help Asana Boards FAQ

How do Asana Boards differ from Trello?

While both use Kanban-style boards, Asana offers much more complex project management features, such as timeline views, custom fields, and workload management. Trello is simpler and more heavily focused entirely on visual Kanban boards, making it better for individual or small team task tracking. Asana is designed to scale for enterprise-level organizations that need multiple different project views (List, Board, Timeline).

Can you assign multiple people to one task on an Asana Board?

While you can technically tag multiple people in the task comments, Asana strongly recommends assigning a single Task Owner to ensure clear accountability. However, within a subtask structure, you can assign different individual subtasks to various team members underneath one parent card. The main Assignee field on the board card is specifically designed to hold exactly one primary responsible person.

How do you view Asana Boards as a Gantt chart or timeline?

You can easily switch from a Board view to a Timeline view by clicking the dropdown menu next to the project title at the top of the screen. Asana will automatically translate your Kanban board columns and due dates into a horizontal Gantt chart. This allows project managers to easily visualize dependencies and long-term project schedules without having to recreate the data.

Does Asana offer a free tier for using their boards?

Yes, Asana offers a Basic plan that is completely free for teams of up to 15 people. This free tier includes access to list, board, and calendar views, along with basic task assignments and limited integrations. However, to access advanced features like custom fields, timeline views, and unlimited dashboards, you must upgrade to a paid Premium or Business account.
