help ASVAB FAQ
What ASVAB score do you need to pass for military enlistment?
There is no single pass mark; your four-subtest AFQT percentile is checked against each branch's minimum, which varies, with some branches historically accepting scores in the low 30s and others requiring around 40 or higher. Higher scores also open more job options.
What subjects are on the ASVAB, and which ones count for the AFQT?
The full battery has about ten subtests spanning math, verbal, science, technical, and mechanical topics. The AFQT, which determines enlistment eligibility, is computed from just four: Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Arithmetic Reasoning, and Mathematics Knowledge.
How long are ASVAB scores valid?
ASVAB scores are valid for two years from the test date. If you do not enlist within that window, you will need to retake the test.
Can you retake the ASVAB if you don't like your score?
Yes, retesting is allowed, typically after waiting about one month for the first retest, with longer required waiting periods for subsequent retakes. Because scores can go down as well as up, retaking without studying can be risky.
