Atlas Shrugged is a 1957 novel by Russian-American writer and philosopher Ayn Rand. Set in a dystopian United States, it follows industrialist Dagny Taggart and other productive figures as society is disrupted by the disappearance of influential inventors, entrepreneurs, and executives. The novel presents Rand's philosophy of Objectivism through its treatment of individual rights, rational self-interest, capitalism, and opposition to collectivism.
