description August Lösch Overview

August Lösch was a German economist whose work examined how economic activity is distributed across geographic space. In The Economics of Location, first published in German in 1940, he developed a general theory of market areas, industrial location, and spatial economic organization that extended debates associated with central place theory. His models influenced economic geography, location theory, and the later development of regional science.
