description Beeleigh Mill Overview
Beeleigh Mill is a historical industrial site in Maldon, Essex, England, originally built to grind grain using water and steam power. Following a fire in 1879, the roof was destroyed, leaving a ruin, but the internal mechanisms were preserved within the remaining brick walls. The site is significant to industrial archaeology because it contains a rare surviving example of a mid-19th-century steam milling plant, including its original engine, boilers, and cast-iron gearing. Now a scheduled monument, the mill provides physical insight into the technological history of the Victorian milling industry.
