Biscayne National Park is a protected marine area in southern Florida, established in its present national-park form in 1980. It preserves Biscayne Bay, mangrove shorelines, islands of the northern Florida Keys, seagrass habitats, and part of the Florida Reef. About 95 percent of the park is water, so boating, paddling, snorkeling, diving, and fishing are central ways to experience it. The park also protects shipwrecks and other evidence of roughly 10,000 years of human history, and is managed by the U.S.
