Black Starlet is a 1974 American drama and blaxploitation film directed by Chris Munger, with Juanita Brown playing Clara, later known as Carla Brown. The film follows an aspiring African American actress who leaves Gary, Indiana, for Los Angeles and encounters poverty, coercion, sexual exploitation, and unequal power in the entertainment industry. Its story examines how the pursuit of screen work changes her relationships and ambitions; the film was also released under the alternate title Black Gauntlet.
