Blackenstein, also marketed as Black Frankenstein, is a 1973 American blaxploitation horror film directed by William Levey and written by Frank Saletri. It is a loose adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and belongs to the cycle of Black horror and exploitation films that included Blacula (1972). The cast includes John Hart, Ivory Stone, Andrea King, Roosevelt Jackson, Joe De Sue, Nick Bolin, and Liz Renay. Its title and monster premise recast the Frankenstein story in a 1970s exploitation-film setting.
