Blood Wedding

The Bride still feels a powerful attraction to Leonardo, her former lover, despite marrying the Bridegroom. Their flight turns a socially tense wedding into a fatal pursuit shaped by desire, honor, and the feud between the men's families.

Lorca drew inspiration from reports of a bride who fled with another man before a rural wedding in Spain. He transformed that incident into a poetic tragedy rather than presenting a factual reconstruction of the crime.

In the forest sequence, the Moon helps expose the fugitives by providing light, while the Beggar Woman functions as a personification or herald of Death. Their appearance shifts the play from rural realism into ritual and myth.

The three plays are often grouped as Lorca's major rural tragedies because they examine repression, family authority, sexuality, and social convention in Spanish communities. They are separate stories, not sequels with recurring characters.
