Boden Fortress

Boden Fortress is located in and around the town of Boden in Norrbotten, northern Sweden. It was strategically positioned to defend Sweden's northern approaches and protect vital iron ore railway connections. Boden lies north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland.

Boden Fortress consists of five main self-contained forts spread around the town of Boden, along with numerous smaller fortifications and support installations. The five primary forts are named Rödberget, Degerberget, Mjösjöberget, Gammelängsberget, and Leåker. Each fort was carved into bedrock and equipped with heavy artillery turrets.

Construction of Boden Fortress began in 1900 and was completed in 1916. The fortress was decommissioned as an active military installation in 1998, ending nearly a century of service. It played a key role in Sweden's Cold War defense strategy for its northern frontier.
