The Boeing E-3 Sentry is an airborne early warning and control aircraft based on a modified Boeing 707/320 airframe. Its mission systems provide airborne surveillance, target detection, tracking, and command and control for joint, allied, and coalition operations. The aircraft is identified by a 9.1-metre rotating radar dome mounted above the fuselage; the first E-3s were delivered to the United States in 1977 and to NATO in 1982.
