description Brandberg Massif Overview
The Brandberg Massif is a large granite intrusive complex in Namibia's Namib Desert. Its summit, Königstein, rises above the surrounding desert and forms the highest part of the massif. The area is also known for numerous prehistoric rock paintings attributed to San hunter-gatherer communities, including the well-known image called the White Lady in Maack Shelter. Brandberg is therefore significant for both its geology and its archaeological record.
