help Brant Point Light FAQ

Where is Brant Point Light?

Brant Point Light stands at the entrance to Nantucket Harbor in Massachusetts. It is one of the first Nantucket landmarks many ferry passengers see when arriving on the island.

Why is Brant Point Light called the tenth light on the point?

The Brant Point station began in 1746, but earlier lights burned, blew down, were condemned, or were replaced. The current wooden tower dates to 1901 and is counted as the tenth light at the site.

Is the 1901 Brant Point Light the same as the older brick tower?

No. The older 1856 brick tower still exists nearby, but the active harbor light is the small white 1901 tower at the point.

Is Brant Point Light still operating?

Yes, Brant Point Light remains an active aid to navigation. The station was automated in 1965 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
