description Brunkebergsåsen Overview
Brunkebergsåsen was the former Stockholm section of Stockholmsåsen, a glacial esker formed from sediment deposited by meltwater during the last Ice Age. It ran through the area that became central Norrmalm and was progressively reduced or removed as Stockholm expanded and streets were reshaped. The 1886 Brunkeberg Tunnel cut through the ridge, and surviving traces are mainly understood through the city's historical landscape and geological record.
