Bud Freeman was an American jazz musician, composer, and bandleader who lived from 1906 to 1991. Primarily known as a tenor saxophonist, he emerged from the group of young Chicago musicians associated with the Austin High School Gang and helped define the Chicago jazz style during the 1920s. His light, fluid phrasing distinguished him from many contemporaries, and he later worked extensively in swing groups and traditional jazz settings.
