Burg Stolpen

description Burg Stolpen Overview

Burg Stolpen is a medieval castle and fortress in Stolpen, Saxony, Germany, built on a basalt hill. The site developed from a medieval episcopal residence into a fortified complex, and its dark local basalt remains a defining feature of the walls and towers. It is especially associated with Countess Anna Constantia of Cosel, a former mistress of Augustus the Strong, who was held there for almost 49 years and died at the fortress in 1765.
