Bushido Blade

description Bushido Blade Overview

Bushido Blade is a 1997 weapon-based fighting game developed by Light Weight and published by Square for the PlayStation. Instead of conventional health bars, combatants can be disabled by injuries or killed by a single well-placed strike, making distance, timing, stance, and weapon reach central to play. Its fights take place across connected three-dimensional environments and draw on samurai cinema and Japanese martial traditions.

help Bushido Blade FAQ

How does the damage system work in Bushido Blade?

Bushido Blade completely removes traditional health bars in favor of realistic anatomical damage. A solid strike to a limb will permanently cripple your opponent's movement or attacks, and a clean hit to the head or torso results in an instant one-hit kill.

Can you run away during a fight in Bushido Blade?

Yes, unlike most fighting games confined to a single screen, Bushido Blade features open 3D environments that you can freely run through. You can actually flee into the bamboo forest or castle areas to reset the spacing or ambush your opponent.

Who made Bushido Blade?

The game was developed by Light Weight and published by Square for the original PlayStation in 1997. It received a sequel, Bushido Blade 2, before the development team moved on to create the Kengo series.
