Caerleon Amphitheatre

description Caerleon Amphitheatre Overview

The Caerleon Amphitheatre is an ancient Roman military arena located in the village of Caerleon, Wales, which was historically the site of the Roman legionary fortress of Isca Augusta. Constructed around AD 80, it was primarily built to entertain and train the soldiers of the Legio II Augusta. The elliptical earthwork structure had an estimated seating capacity of about 6,000 spectators who would gather to watch gladiatorial combats and military drills. Today, it is a scheduled monument managed by Cadw and is noted as the most complete Roman amphitheatre in Great Britain.
