Cambridge Mosque

The Cambridge Central Mosque was completed and opened to the public in 2019 in Cambridge, England. It serves as a major spiritual and cultural center for the local Muslim community.

It is considered Europe's first purpose-built eco-mosque because of its heavy focus on sustainability and harmony with nature. The building features locally sourced timber, natural lighting, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.

The mosque was designed by the architectural firm Marks Barfield Architects, who are globally famous for designing the London Eye. They successfully blended traditional Islamic geometry with modern, sustainable British architecture.

The building is supported by a stunning timber framework of interlocking trees that form the ceiling and supporting columns. This distinctive design is heavily inspired by both Islamic geometry and the natural forms found in traditional English gardens.
