Cerrado

The Cerrado is a vast tropical savanna located in the central region of Brazil. It spans roughly 2 million square kilometers, making it the second-largest biome in South America after the Amazon rainforest.

It is recognized as the world's most biodiverse savanna ecoregion, home to thousands of endemic plant and animal species. This rich ecosystem supports unique wildlife like the maned wolf and the giant anteater.

Reportedly, more than half of the Cerrado's original vegetation has been converted into agricultural land for soy and cattle. Because it is not as heavily protected as the Amazon, this rapid habitat loss continues to be a major environmental concern.

The Cerrado is characterized by twisted, deep-rooted trees and shrubs adapted to survive frequent fires and nutrient-poor soil. It also features expansive grasslands, creating a transition zone between the dense Amazon rainforest and the drier Caatinga.
