Charles-Marie Widor was a French organist, composer, and teacher associated with the Romantic tradition. He served for decades as organist at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, whose large Cavaillé-Coll organ helped shape his approach to registration and orchestral color. Widor is especially known for ten organ symphonies, including the Fifth Symphony, whose concluding Toccata became a widely performed work for ceremonies and organ recitals.
