Chrysaora caliparea

description Chrysaora caliparea Overview

Chrysaora caliparea is a scyphozoan jellyfish in the genus Chrysaora, a group commonly known as sea nettles. It is associated with tropical Pacific coastal waters and with the long marginal tentacles characteristic of many Chrysaora medusae. Like other cnidarians, it bears nematocysts, specialized cells used in feeding and defense, which explains why sea nettles are treated as stinging jellyfish.
